Butterfield Village

The Butterfield Village bakery is based on the same concept as originally introduced by Butterfield in the mid 1990’s, offering piping hot bread to our customers which made Butterfield bread famous. The original bread recipe was reintroduced after Johan Stapelberg (Butterfield founder) regained control of the Butterfield brand in July 2013.

Butterfield Village is our baseline model with emphasis on low setup and running costs. The product range includes our signature Butterfield “JUMBO” loaves as well as an array of freshly baked bread rolls and traditional sweet confectionery items.

Butterfield Village bakeries were specifically designed to operate in rural and township areas. We operate on traditional craft bakery methods, where most processes in the bread production line are completed by hand. The bakery is open plan and production takes place in full view of the customers.

We have specified new generation equipment for the Butterfield Village bakery, which uses substantially less electricity than traditional ovens and takes up less floor space, while still offering 70% of the traditional ovens’ baking capacity. We source all equipment locally from reputable suppliers.

Our same unique recipes used in the Butterfield Urban bakeries are employed in the Butterfield Village bakery, with focus on fresh and wholesome ingredients.
